Note: This will not allow you to use the "nifty" Netgear GUI for wireless settings/info--you'll have to use the generic Windows wireless connection manager.
HOW-TO:
1. Grab a set of drivers downloaded from Netgear's site. For my WG111v2 adapter, I used the software/driver/utility Version 2.0.0.
2. Inside the .zip file there is a file titled "Data1.cab" (hopefully the name is the same for other adapters)--extract the contents of this file into a folder. If you can't extract it, use an application like WinRAR or ALZip.
3. If you currently have the Netgear software installed, goto Add/Remove and uninstall it.
4. After the uninstall is complete, goto your Control Panel and click on "User Accounts". Then, click on "Change the way users log on or off". (fyi, I have McAffee on my system so it alerts me that it doesn't like the script it detected but I tell it to allow it.)
5. Make sure the "Use the Welcome screen" and "Use Fast User Switching" are checked and click "Apply Options".
6. Now, if your Netgear USB is still plugged in, unplug it and plug it back in. This will cause Windows to re-detect the adapter. If your adapter is a PC Card, remove it and re-insert it. If your adapter is a PCI card, perhaps performing a search/scan for new hardware in the device manager will re-detect it.
7. When the new hardware wizard appears, it will ask if you want to connect to Windows Update to search for the driver. Select "No, not this time".
8. When the new hardware wizard asks if you want to install it automatically, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)".
9. Search for the driver in the folder where you extracted the contents of "Data1.cab" earlier.
VOILA!
Hope this helps...
Randy.
