M520 Heat issue
I am working on one of these right now. It has the exact issue you describe. I have worked on it before. It is a known problem. Also the plug for the power supply has been a problem. Some have actually burned out the plug connection on the motherboard.
So keep it cool (blow a fan over it) and be extra smooth when plugging and unplugging.
Gateway ignores the issue (as do other manufacturers).
