installing windows 98 onto HP laptop

I was given a HP omnibook 4150 for my daughter to use. It is a Pentium 2 with 64 megs of ram.

Anywho this is the problem, it has no O/S except for the XP that is slowly installing as we speak just to get something on there for now. The laptop has a cdrom and a floppy drive and they both work great, the only thing is they plug into a slot on the laptop and I can only have one or the other in.

I boot off the floppy (boot disk) fine and then it will not install the drivers for the cd rom because it cannot see it as installed. So when I switch to the cd rom to install Win98 SE it says not a valid drive. I know the cd rom works because XP can boot of of it but XP is painfully slow on it. Any ideas how I can beat this would be great.
