i don't think it is the hardware really. you can do a scandisk on the HD, by right clicking on c:\ > properties > tools tab> check now.
this will scan the HD for faults and i don't expect it will find any, but try it anyway. it might ask to do it next time you restart - thats ok.
i'd wait until someone from security has a look at you hijack log.
