I've dealt with tens of T40s and T41s, but not the T42. Try entering your password in notepad so it is visible. Look for errors, as this could be a keyboard problem. If not, you may have to reset the software/password somehow. I do know, however that the Password Manager software is directly integrated into IBM's security chip. Due to this, hacking is impossible, do not attempt, for the chip kinda screws with the system when tampered with. Well, I've never seen the program first-hand, but maybe you'll just have to ditch the passwords and reinstall it.
