I've seen this before. The hardware switch that tells ACPI that the lid has closed somtimes sends multiple signals. When the computer wakes up, ACPI sends the signal to the OS again, inducing standby. If it keeps up, disable that in Power Settings in Control Panel. If you are using a Toshiba with Toshiba Power Saver installed, you will have to use that.
