I dont think it is the motherboard itself. Were it the Display Contoller, the external monitor would exhibit the same behavior. I have seen this many times on laptops. It MOST likely the physical connector where the LCD cable meets the motherboard. Try reseating as best you can, or cleaning the contacts (if possible). Otherwise, you will have to replace that mainboard or get a new pc.
