You should only upgrade the BIOS if there is some specific feature you want or a problem you're trying to solve. More than one person has rendered their system inert by having a problem during the upgrade and ending up with a deaf and dump motherboard.
Look at the release notes for the upgraded BIOS and see if anything rings a bell. :)
