Symptoms began this morning upon startup:
Popup window warning (with multiple, differing messages) in the lower right hand corner of screen, seeming to begin the moment I'm hooked up to the SBC network. Messages included "You're receiving spam," "Spyware detected," and the like. My homepage has been changed, and continues to switch back regardless of how many times I reset it. After a few minutes of the computer being on, my access to the task manager is cut off (I can see, but cannot change tasks), my ability to change system settings (such as system restore) is cut off. After restarting the system, I can access/change setting, but for a limited amount of time.
Up until now, this computer did not have protection against viruses/spyware, as these programs would cause conflicts with recording software on the computer. Yes, I feel dumb
The first system scan at Symantec came up with a report which listed Trojan.Galapoper.A (in about 8 instances), and one of Trojan.Adclicker. Since that time, I've run through the 5 recommended steps: Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWShredder, Ewido all installed and used to scan (in safe mode). I reran system scans by pandasoftware.com, mcafee, and symantec (which no longer lists the Galapoper, by the way). I checked Ad/Remove, and nothing was listed, and I check the linked site for questionable software. Finally, I ran a Hijackthis scan (below).
At this point, the IE homepage is still being reset to a window which says "Windows Security Center: Scan Your PC for Spyware!" (followed by a paragraph of description);and whenever I open ANY window, ewido gives me a malware warning with this info:
File: Users32
Path: C:\Windows\System32
Infection: Not-A-Virus.Hoax.Win32.Renos.dk
Please be forgiving if I have glossed over anything, or left something out, as this is my absolute first experience with anything like this.
Here is my Hijackthis scan report (I also have a Panda Active scan report if needed):
