... I'm having a similar problem and am hoping that if you've figured it out by now that you may share the secret. My laptop thinks that it has a mouse plugged into the PS/2 port (it doesn't), and so although all the functionality of the touchpad is still represented on the control panel all the good stuff (scrolling, corner tapping etc) has stopped.
