Not clear if this is with the external keyboard still plugged in.
It sounds likes something got spilled on the laptop keyboard?
Even with an external keyboard plugged in, the laptop keyboard still will work.
You may need to remove and unplug the laptop keyboard to see if this stops the repeating key.
