Stay Away From Alienware
If there is any company that I would recommend less, I cannot bring the name to mind. After having owned an Alienware computer for a year I have to admit that it is the worst thing I have ever dealt with. Amazing to spend nearly $4000 for a piece of junk but here it is.
Alienware 7700-M (Fully Loaded, Raid, 2 GB Memory, Fastest processors, video, etc all).
Purchased in January 2005.
Dead by March 2005
Sent in Summer 2005
Sent back reformatted (I cannot recall what they repaired/replaced)
Used for another few weeks. Dead again
Sent in again, sent back reformatted (Replaced motherboard/CPU)
Used again, this time a good month. Dead again (Who knows what they will replace now. Who cares, it is obviously a piece of junk).
Call tech support. What do they say, not to worry, try reseating the videocard/motherboard/who knows what.
Why spend thousands of dollars so you can become a hardware tech yourself? If you are interested in taking on that as a hobby then purchase from them. If you have money to throw away then this is the place to go. I am sure they will help you out. Want a working computer, there are many companies out there. They cannot possibly all be this pathetic. This is probably my 15th computer. Many companies, few problems, this company, and you end up with nothing but a large hunk of junk.
If you do purchase you better get the extended warranty. You will need it. The one upside? I am getting my moneys worth on the warranty. The down side? I have spent thousands and have nothing but headache to show for it.
Check the web, I am far from alone. Do yourself a favor, buy elsewhere.
So you know, no hardcore games played. Latest cause of trouble, attempting to copy files under explorer. Then it locks up. Working hard when this happened? Not sure as I was going to select files when it locked up. Perhaps a poor selection? Power down, power back and nothing. Just sits there. No OS, no BIOS, nada. Power off leave a few minutes, power back, goes to IDE drive (starting to boot) then locks up, power off, power back, no screen, power off, power back it boots. 5 minutes later it is dead again. Same story. Pure Junk. Just very expensive junk. Anyone want a fully loaded 7700-M under warranty? I will entertain anything that covers shipping.
