System won't power up randomly.
I recently built my new pc and everything seemed to be working fine, but i recently found a problem when going to actually turn the pc on.
When i press the power on switch sometimes nothing happens, sometimes i get odd flickers of power (cpu fan turns, case fans turn) other times it turns on fine.
The problem appears to be worse when the computer hasn't been off for a long time. e.g if its been off for a day its ok, if its been off for a few minutes, the problem occurs.
I initially build my pc with an athlon64 3800+, on a MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM 939 , but found that there was a conflict with the chipset and my Geforce6800 ultra. So i sent it back and ordered a ASUS A8V DELUXE 939 AGP but it wouldnt power up. I thought it might be shorting as it was a snug fit in my case, so i ordered a new case, my Thermaltake Soprano.
It still wouldnt power up so i thought the mobo was faulty so i ordered a replacement, which seemed to work great. But now im getting the power up problem. If i really mash the power button it usually gets it to work (high tech solution i know.)
I have everything connected correctly, with my memory in the correct DIMM sockets, there is nowhere where the mobo is touching the case, and i checked my cpu temperatures and mobo temps and everything was in the green.
My only remaining guess would be crappy power supply, but i never had a problem with it in my old rig. 480W.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated, its got to the stage now where im reluctant to turn my pc off at all.
Oh and if i posted this in the wrong forum i apologize but this was my best guess.
Mark.
