Finally, it all works!
So, I did previously try disabling Norton... such that at least the icon in the taskbar had the circle with a line through it, and it read "Norton antivus disabled" when I moused over. I still couldn't connect though.
So, I completely uninstalled all the Norton software from my computer (there were 3 distinct listings in the add/remove programs window) and now I can access and login to all the websites.
I'm going to try reinstalling Norton to see if it'll work properly, but I guess that was the problem.
Anything else I should do to keep the laptop safe?
