When you have your CD as the first boot device, it should come up with a line that says( hit any key to boot from cdrom).Are you getting this? A lot of people do not reise that you have to hit a key to boot from the cd. If you do not then it will then try and boot from the HDD.
As to placeing the drive into another machine and installing windows. That is possable but before you move the drive into the other machine
