The other issue if you have DSL at home the DSL PPP software may be causing problems. You may need to make sure the DSL software is not running and you may even need to delete it??

Start, Run, type cmd, type ipconfig /all and see if the IP address is either 169.xxx.xxx.xxx (which is not good) or there is a reference to a ethernet adapter with PPP (which is not good in this situation).
