Spyware Cleaned (I Hope), Now No Desktop...

This AM I started having issues while using IE 6 (warning from a spyware spam site that my system was infected). Normally I just shut these windows, but this time IE6 kept shutting down. I ran SpyBot SD1.3 and although the spyware (there was lots of it) seems to be gone, by desktop icons are gone to. All that shows is the background image; no icons, so system bar (bottom of screen), no start menu, nothing. I have to run everything backdoor through Task Manager (accessed by the old CTL+ALT+DEL key sequence). I normally run Spybot and Ad-Aware at least once a week and this issue only started this AM. Any ideas if there is somethng still "hiding" or if I simply need to get my desktop settings corrected? How would I do that? Nothing seems to be missing from the hard drive (files, folders, programs, etc). Only the desktop is messed up at this point.

Windows XP / IBM Thinkpad

Thanks in advance!
