As a start I would use Windows Task Manager as a tool.

CNTL-ALT-DEL to bring up Task Manager.
Click on Processes Tab.
Click twice on the CPU label. This will sort the tasks running from high to low.
This window should display on Top of all your other open windows. When your lagging starts see which tasks are running high.

This should get you a starting point for you.
