Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature.
Make sure you run AdawareSE as this will remove TopText. If that fails..use the manual method.
Open add/remove programs and remove any of the following if listed.
TopText
iLookup
HotText
ContextPro
After using ‘Add/Remove Programs’, the System directory contains a stub.exe file which is responsible for this. Before you can delete it you may need to use the command:
"%WinDir%\SYSTEM\stub.exe -UnregServer"
For Windows NT/2000/XP, the command is simply:
stub.exe -UnregServer
You may want to boot into safe mode and delete that file. Let me know the outcome.
