Plug the speakers into a portable audio player to make sure they work and determine if the problem is the computer or the speakers.

Batteries low??

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Sound and Multimedia, make sure Volume is not down, and make sure the box is checked to show volume control on the task bar. Go to the Audio tab and click on Volume to bring up the Volume Control. Make sure volume is up and not muted. Go to the Advanced tab and make sure you are properly configured, probably Desktop Stereo Speakers.

Maybe an sound driver issue?? Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Sound, video and game controllers. Make sure nothing appears to have a yellow ! next to it.
