Evil Troublesome NIC problem (i guess)

Hello, im new to your forum and glad to be, first time i'm gonna learn something.

Here's the problem: my onboard NIC won't stop randomly disconnecting to a frustrating "Network cable disconnected". The green light on it is always on, the cable is good (and tested), drivers are fresh new after uninstalling/rebooting/making sure its clean, and well... frankly i'm CLUELESS and that's why i'm here. If it gives u some help, it disconnects after about 5-10 minutes of gaming and up to an hour of internet browsing i guess. Gaming really does it all the time. Then i need to uninstall/reinstall the drivers, reboot the computer for it to work again.

Now, here's the box info: running WinXP Home SP1, mobo Asus P4SD-LA, Intel Pentium 4E 3Ghz, Infineon 512Mb DDR SDRAM
Interesting parts: onboard NIC is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet, ISP is Bell Sympatico (rarely, very rarely have problems on their side, been going good for a year and more for sure), hooked on a Dl-704 D-Link router working properly (because the family computer works all the time and he's the other comp hooked on it, all lights on it are OK as well) and that router is plugged into a SpeedStream 5200 modem, whose LEDs are all good as well (again, the family computer never has any trouble, so i'm guessing it's my box settings that are screwed up, but i don't know that stuff ).

What messes me up is that i tried taking my box downstairs, to where the family computer was, and i didn't get disconnected anytime, but had regular lags (major ones in games, where everything warps for a second or 2) while being hooked either through the router or not (i'm excluding, again, the router from any possible cause, actually my box does it either through it or straight to the modem, nothing changes). I have IP and DNS settings on Automatic, i've uninstalled the "useless" (in my case) settings in the Connection properties (MS network, Printers) i've reset the IP stack with the Sympatico staff, nothing does it.

So i think so far i've written nearly a novel (sure feels like it... ) but i'll leave it up to you guys to lead me from there, anything u need to know that's not in here, ask and it'll be up in here. Thanks in advance, A WHOLE LOT!!

-Edit-

I ran AdAware, SpyBot and Micro-trend's today, nothing showed up (it's good, but at the same time it does make it longer to troubleshoot
