On my cable line I get 5.0Mbps download and 384Kbps upload. There are other ISPs in my locale that offer 8 down and 1.5 up. Shop around and you should find something you like. If you're in an apartment, however, you may run into difficulty as many have contracts with local providers and using another company may not be an option.
