Speakers / Headphones Problems

I've been having problems getting my headphones working on my computer. I used to plug them into a port on the front of my computer, beside a set of USB ports, and it worked fine. One day, one ear stopped getting sound. I tried the speaker port at the back of the computer, and got the same thing. I seeked help at another forum, and they got the port below the disk drive working for me, but only for CDs. I was wondering if there was a way that I can get all sounds, and audio from my computer (downloaded music, error sounds, internet radio, etc.) to come through the headphones, in the headphone port right under the CD drive.

In addition, I think when I was messing around with the settings to get my headphones to work, I somehow disabled my left desktop speaker, as it no longer produces sound. I was hoping one of you guys would know what I did, and could help me fix it also.

Thanks.
