Acer Aspire Battery Problem
Hi.
I have an Acer Aspire 5050, running on XP.
AMD Turion 64 Mobile
Technology MK-38
2.20 GHz, 1.93GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
My laptop kept freezing on startup, instantly. The mouse wouldn't move and the CPU usage went off the scales. After much research, I realised that my battery was to blame. When I unplugged the battery and only used the power cable, then the computer wouldn't freeze. So I decided to buy a new battery off eBay.
The battery has arrived and I now have another problem.
If I use ONLY BATTERY - laptop turns itself off instantly. Soon as the black windows logo appears on startup, the laptop turns off.
If I use ONLY POWER CABLE - laptop boots up perfectly.
If I use BATTERY AND POWER CABLE - laptop boots up perfectly and batter LED is flashing.
The battery has been charged fully overnight.
I thought that maybe the new battery I bought might be dead.
But, if I press f2 during startup (this is with ONLY BATTERY) and the bios screen appears, the laptop stays powered for a long time (obviously this is useless for me because I can't do anything with bios settings!).
However, if I don't press anything on startup, then soon as it changes to the black screen with Windows logo, it turns off immediately.
I'm thinking that maybe Windows is making the laptop trip off.
If I startup the laptop with BATTERY AND POWER CABLE, it works fine. But when I take out the power cable, after 5 seconds, the laptop turns off. Not shut down, immediately turns off!
I have installed Acer's Power Management software. Still no change.
I have bought the correct battery. It is the same voltage.
Also, if I click the battery icon on the taskbar, it says 0% battery. So I don't think Windows recognizes the battery.
Anyone any ideas??? This is really annoying me.
