Re: windows xp does not boot
OK, in the mean time I bought a WD 320Gb new HD. Installed Windows XP again plus all the other stuff. started and everything works fine. Now installed "bad, old drive" as secondary drive in order to see if I could recover data. And yes! I could see the 3 partitions on the old drive. The old C:\ was inaccessible, but D:\ and E:\ I could in there. Used a program "GetDataBack to recover data from C:\ and that worked as well! So I thought to have resolved it. Not so: next time I started the pc got a message from WD that the pc might not recognise the full 320Gb and proposed to make changes in the BIOS to fix that. So, I thought it could do me no harm. However the next start of the computer I found that Windows stuck after/during the initial screen where it shows it is initializing the OS. If I disconnect the second HD than it starts up normally. The second drive is recognized in the BIOS, but it prevents Windows to start up properly. Any feedback?
