Hi. Thanks for your help. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but I just got back last night after being away at work for a couple days.
Last night I read your reply and did exactly as you said. While gmer was performing the scan, the computer shut down and tried to restart. But when it got as far as the windows screen, it shut down again. This time when it tried to restart, it would not go beyond the initial splash screen. After a couple attempts I shut the computer off and went to bed. This morning it was the same, but for some reason I left it on the splash screen for a while. After about 15 minutes it began to boot up very slowly. It took about twenty minutes but I was back up and running. I did get a message that said the system has recovered from a serious error.
I ran the scan again and this time it was able to complete. The file is attached.
