Well, if that cable is in a single run with no booster, that's most likely a big part of the problem. CAT5/5e/6 is specified for a maximum of 100 meter hops, and that gets reduced for each connector or patch cord in the path.

I'd put a booster (a simple Ethernet switch will do fine) in the middle of that run, my guess is things will work a lot better.
