Fixed the problem. Well, if the DSLAM had been set to default address my original fix would have worked! (add a second IP address of 192.168.x.x to the Windows XP network card). But the address wasnt default as I discovered by plugging a com port and Telnet to it. Added the same class address to the network card and it worked in IE no problem.
