most likely your 80GB drive was formatted for windows in NTFS so you may want to install wine

NTFS is not compatible with Linux and your files will be read only. Best thing to do is back up everything on that drive that you want to be able to access later then format it in FAT32 which Linux can read and is compatible .. also means that you can plug it into and use it on a windows machine as well.
