K8n-e delux sata problem

I was running xp on a standard Ide 30 gig maxtor. I purchased a Seagate 160 gig Sata HD and plugged it into the Sata1 socket on my mobo (not in one of the 4 raid sockets)
I removed the data cable from my existing HD so as not to cause confusion.
In bios I enabled both the on board sata and sata raid (and all combinations thereof) but whatever I do Bios does not see my new Sata HD.
I am using bios revision K8N-E deluxe 1.0.0.5. I want The new Seagate drive to be my Boot HD, Il keep the old one for back up etc. I have read some threads regarding the Silicon Image drivers and their instalation at the F6 part of winxp install but shouldnt my bios post the sata drive before hand?
My floppy is broken and I cant get out of the house easily so any help will be much appreciated. thanks
