Code 12, My dvd drive isn't working

Hi. I run XP and I'm having really frustrating problems with code 12. I've only just found out that it was my system and not the actual drive, I even bought a brand new DVD drive before I checked this out just to make sure.

I go into device manager and next to primary and secondary IDE drives and it shows an exclamation mark. I double click and it says...

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."

How do I fix this? Is it just a case of disabling something? I'm really confused as to what caused this because I've not made any changes recently.

Thanks,
James.
