External Hardrive virus

My friend managed to deposit a nice little virus / trojan of some form onto my external hard-drive. It causes the registry files to change so that task manager and regedit are disabled. I have fixed these problems however I am unsure how to find the file / virus that is on the hardrive causing this.
I have searched for this but found no way to route it out, Norton finds nothing and is fully up to date etc. Interestingly it only does it's deeds if you try and open the hard drive through my computer in which it appears as an empty folder. If the autoplay function is used and you "open folder to view files" then no adverse affects are experienced. It seems to be triggered by the opening of the folder through my computer. I have seen similar problems with drives appearing as folders and they are aparently registry issues according to what I have read however this is obviously linked to this virus. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers
