Cry Problem with gfx card!!

i recently put a computer together and put my best gfx card in it which is a little out dated now but anyway its an Nvidia 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition XFX and i was looking forward get getting some awesome performance on a new system however whenever i run a game on reccommended graphics (High/Very High) it will run for about 5 maybe 10minutes and then the monitor will go black as if its gone to sleep and theres no input from the card what so ever. The only thing i can do then is restart the system, as well as this the sound starts to loop and whatever sound is heard during the crash is repeated until i drain the power. Ive checked all my drivers and according to windows they are all up-to-date and work fine, ive checked tempuratures and my CPU runs at about 40c in-game and my GPU runs about about 50-70c its never gone passed 70c so i dont think its struggle with the heat and it isnt my RAM as ive used the RAM in other systems and it works fine. Im stumped as to what is causing the problem =( please help! i wanna play games again

My Specs are:
Intel Core2 Quad@3.0GHz
Asus P5Q Deluxe MB
3.0GHz Kingston RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition XFX
Corsair TX650Watt PSU

Btw ive tried my old ATI X1300 gfx card and that runs fine apart from the struggle in FPS, but other than that theres no crashes with my old card just my 8800GT.
