It sounds like you may have some interference or a bad router. Here is a small project you may get some help with. For a test/experiment, Take a piece of foil (heavy gauge is best), bend it in a 90 degree angle and sit it behind the antenna. This will sometimes help direct more signal to the receiver until you can conquer the real problem!
Use approx. a foot or so square for the reflector. A rounded corner may help also. If it helps, please post the results as someone else may need a quick temp fix!
