My friend bought a Sterling Audio ST55 microphone. Apparently its a 200$ mic. He has a new dell inspiron laptop with Vista.

Someone told him that he cant connect it to the laptop jack or else something's going to blow... The mic itself did not come with a cable or anything.

Question is:
If he buys the mic cable and the connector to fit the laptop jack, will the mic work fine or does he need something else like a mic mixer or something to make it work?
