The USB interface is about useless for troubleshooting - it doesn't pass some of the low level commands and protocols that are needed... if it's not found in BIOS, then you still eeed to verify the configuration. DR pros can recover from a lot of serious failures to get the data, but nothing much you can do at home if not identified....
