Unreadable photos
Hi all,
I recently returned from an overseas holiday. Whilst overseas, my girlfriend transferred some photos from our Olympus xd card to a USB drive using cut and paste. After the transfer, we tried to view the photos from a PC, but no program would view them.
After that point, whenever we transferred photos from the xd card to the USB, we would check to see which ones could be viewed on the PC and which ones couldn't. It was pretty random, sometimes they could be viewed on the PC, and sometimes they couldn't. So what we did was leave the photos which the PC could not view on the xd card, and the ones which could be viewed we transferred to the USB (and there is no problem with these). The Olympus camera can still read the other "unreadable" photos as long as they stay on the xd card.
Now that I'm back, I've tried to view the first set of photos using a number of programs, with the followinf responses:
Windows picture and fax viewer - "No preview available"
Quicktime picture viewer - "Couldn't display P3270364.JPG because a suitable graphics importer could not be found"
IrfanView - "Can't read file header! Unknown file format or file not found!"
Paint - "Paint cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported."
Please, does anyone know what to do about this? I have a bad feeling that the first set of photos are screwed, but there must be some way to save the photos still on the xd card, right?
Cheers,
Carl.
