Hi, I too have this problem of blacked out menu and tool bars in IE8. I also use Firefox and am tempted to abandon IE8 altogether after unsuccessful attempts to repair and other forum postings. I am using winXP SP2, Installed IE8 about 2 months ago and had no problems apart from very slow launch, until 2 days ago when blacked out strips appeared, also some tool bars are superimposed on others.
The main changes that have occured in last 2 days has been updating of drivers which appeared to be all OK but then I found IE8 problem. Suspected Nvdia GeForce2- MX driver so did windback but this did not fix anything so restored a recent update driver, and IE8 problem persists.
Have not yet tried windback on other driver updates, but would not expect these to have any effect. These are SiS Accellerated Graphics Port, & PCI USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller.
Removal of all IE addons and toolbars has no effect.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
