First of all this could be related to a number of issues. If you post your full computer specs we may be able to further advise you.

If I understood you correctly I would first replace your nickel sized CMOS battery on the Motherboard. Check the number should read CR2032 3.0 volt. Secondly, I would pull the power adapter out of your cable modem for a minute then plug it back in. Basically resetting your connection.
