Is it a tapping noise or a knocking noise?
My first thought would be that since you replaced the lifters that they may not be adjusted correctly.
If you have a real long screw driver or another long piece of metal you can put one end on the valve cover and put your ear to the other end. The sound will transmit through the bar so that you can hear it and you can then move the bar around to different areas to try to find the source of the noise.
