IE7/8 not resolving website addresses

Hi guys,

At home I have an issue which is driving me nuts.
Basically we have our cable modem which then leads to a wireless router then we have 2 wired machines. On the 2 machines one is running Vista SP2 with IE8 and the other XP SP3 with IE7.
A few times a day if we open a new page or tab, the browser cannot pull down the website. On the staus bar it shows looking for (IP address here) and after 10 minutes or so we get the page cannot be displayed error.

Initailly I figured it was just the router but now we have a new one, it's a completely different brand but we still get the same problem.

Now on these pages/tabs which don't bring up the website we can't get to anything. Even if we try to get to the routers homepage, it can never find it which to me rules out modem or DNS issues. The only way to resolve it is to open another 3 or 4 tabs until we see one of them work. Usually we'll get another couple which don't then suddenly one will go through.

It's totally baffled me as we have found out it can't be the router, it also can't be the modem/DNS and I don't see how it could be an issue on the machines as they're 2 seperate machines running completely different OS's etc.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
