That should work, but did you clean off the top of the CPU and bottom of the heatsink with 90+% isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free rag first? I don't think it's what's causing your problem, but it is worth doing since it makes the thermal paste work better.

Sometimes temperature sensors aren't accurate, but the BIOS ones are usually the best. I can't imagine why your CPU would be that hot at idle just in BIOS.

I leave this to the more competent techs.
