Right click the file, hit open with > choose program. For example all audio files, choose windows media player and tick the box where it says "always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
That ought to fix your problem
The other way would be to go to windows media player. At the top bar, hit tools > options > file types tab. Adjust as neccesary
