0xc0000033 Explorer.exe

I am running windows xp Media center editon on my m5500i Alienware laptop. I recently had a problem where my laptop would freeze anytime i tried loging in. once i pressed any button to enter my password it would freeze. i started it in safe mode and got one error when it first started.

Quote:
C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:056a IP:ffed OP:63 a7 00 4c 69 Chose 'Close' to terminate the application.
Than. After i closed this one. i had an empty screen in which i could open the task messenger. i did so and tried launching explorer.exe and when i did that. i would get this error message.

After i got these i decided i would try a system restore because i assumed i did something dumb and which i could reverse it. after the system restore finished. i was able to get into windows, but i would get a message saying explorer.exe had a application error 0xc0000033. now i can get into windows any time. just without explorer. can someone please help me. thank you.
And to mention. the reason i post in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware are is because i have googled a lot to see if anyone has had similar problems, but i didn't find anything exact. but similar. and they were virus related. so i thought to put here. if im in the wrong section than i apologize.
