Tagged VLAN @ Datacenter

Hi guys,

I'm running a dedicated server in a datacenter for Microsoft Flight Simulator X Multiplayer. We are on a 100Mbps port and I was recently talking to one of the techs there and they recommended I get setup on one of their "Tagged VLANS". They told me it was optimized to better suite gamers, but would require a change of hardware and a new set of IP's.

My question is, how does/will a "Tagged VLAN" effect me? Will it increase network speed? - From the reading I have been doing, it seems that it may result in higher pings/latency ... is that true? I appreciate all the help in advance!
