Contact your service provider and identify if the modem is able to talk to the xbox 360. I used the same concept with a motorola modem and it worked fine through COX. What you might need to do is update the modem. Some models have a usb port, plug it into your computer and locate the software for it. It should detect it as a internet connection but its not. You should find a way to update the information if you go to the properties. If it does not, contact your internet service provider and identify they are compatible.

Also, just out of curiosity. Check your Ethernet port on the xbox 360 to ensure that there is nothing bent. If nothing else works, you can possibly get a wireless adapter or get a new modem/router. If that doesn't work, and its the port with the problem, you can't fix it. You would have to get a whole new motherboard aka trash the 360 and get a new one.
