OK to setup a static IP you need to know the following.
1. IP of the router
2. DNS IP
3. Subnet
4. DHCP scope (if used)
Example with a standard linksys router
1. 192.168.1.1
2. 208.67.222.222 (opendns)
3. 255.255.255.0
4. 192.168.1.100 ~ 150
Now your default gate way should be the router's IP. Subnet mask the same as it is on the router. Your DNS what ever it is supposed to be. And the computer IP address is set on the same subnet but out of the DHCP scope. So in this example an IP address of 192.168.1.38 would work nicely.
