Good anti-malware programs with free updates[moved from Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help]

Right now I have McAfee and Malwarebytes anti-malware. Although I've used many many programs to try to rid myself of malware such as: Ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster, AVG anti-virus, AVG anti-spyware, windows defender (Yes, I've heard that's not a good program) and Panda to name a few.

I was told I should get McAfee because it is updated every day rather than free ones like AVG. But this isn't true for either of them in my experience. I can go on McAfee and AVG once a day for four days in a row and it won't have updates for me to download.

The technician that I PAID to have help me with my system told me the ones that charge for updates are generally better as they are paid for their services and do a professional job. I had to pay $30 for McAfee security center through them. I wasn't sure what to think of it. She told me she wouldn't/couldn't go any further without me downloading a "good" anti malware program such as that. I wondered if it was something I should have known, or she was just trying to get money out of me (I'm not sure what I paid went to her either, just to McAfee for me buying the program) What I should have done is postponed the session and asked someplace like here before continuing.
