Cannot boot to CD/DVD rom
Since I got my computer, about a year ago, I have been having issues with the CD/DVD Rom. After I initially start up the computer, the CD Rom always shows up as present in the computer. After a time, it will disappear completely, and not even be visible in the my computer tray. This was never a problem, as I was able to just shut down and then turn my computer back on, putting the disk inside after start up, and it was as if nothing was ever the matter. A side note is, that the CD-ROM only would show up again after a shut down and then turning back on of the computer. Never after just a restart.
Anyway. This became a problem today, when I wished to reinstall Windows on my computer. After about a year, my computer had slowed and I felt it was time for a fresh copy, with all the stuff loaded on it, clogging things up. I restarted my computer, put the disk in, etc. but much to my dismay I was not able to get the computer to boot to the windows xp disk. I changed the BIOS settings, to force the computer to boot to the CD-ROM first, but it did not work.
I also cannot download a fresh copy right off the computer, by running the D:/ drive off my start menu, because the disk is for SP1, and Windows won't let me install an old copy (I just download SP2 later). The disk can't read a windows vista disk for some reason.
Pretty much stuck with no ideas what to do. Any and all help would be appreciated.
