Alright, so you guys have my attention with compiling my own kernel. I would imagine that it makes quite a bit of difference. I have only ever compiled one program from source (Pcsx2), and that was through using subversion. If it is something along the lines of that, then it'll be easy for me. If not, you may have to talk me through it. I don;t have anything important under this install (I'm dual booting just in case), so I'm willing to experiment and learn.

Wmorri, to answer your first question, I'm really just looking for any general speed increase I can get through tweaks.
